Roger Warren

Roger passed away peacefully in his home in Cap-À-L’Aigle on July 2nd.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife Margaret Cuddihy, her loving children Andrea Martin (Jean-Sébastien Grisé) and Nicholas Martin (Amanda Imbriglio), his cherished grandchildren Emma, James, Brady and Margot, his brother Paul (Lise Dallaire) and sister Monique (Louis Pelletier), his trusted caretaker and groundskeeper Donald Lavoie, his dear nieces and nephews and his loving Lavoie cousins. Roger was predeceased by his first wife Lore Heintze , his sisters Claire and Paulette, and his brothers Jean and Gerald.

He was born in Pointe-au-Pic to Lucienne Lavoie and Eugène Warren. He attended Regiopolis College, the Royal Military College and obtained his B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering at McGill University.

Roger was the founding President of Rousseau Sauvé Warren (RSW) consulting engineers specializing in hydroelectric power generation and power transmission line projects. Under his stewardship, the RSW team conceived the La Grande hydroelectric complex. Because of his expertise in the harnessing of high voltage transmission and distribution of hydro-electric power, Roger was involved in major hydro-electric developments in Canada and abroad and has attained international renown. He is particularly known for his immense contribution to the James Bay hydroelectric project for which he was the first to receive the Schryer prize.

Roger was distinguished by his volunteer contributions to numerous organizations, primarily in his native region of Charlevoix: the La Malbaie hospital centre, the Association bénévole de Charlevoix, Mains de l’Espoir, the Musée de Charlevoix, and the Domaine Forget. He supported and contributed to the publication of Deux cents ans de villégiature dans Charlevoix and the Revue d’histoire de Charlevoix. He was responsible for establishing a permanent scholarship at Polytechnique Montréal in the field of energy. Roger had the pleasure of serving as a member of the National Aboriginal Economic Development Board.

Roger received numerous honours including being appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada and a knight of the National Order of Québec in recognition of his expertise and his contribution to major hydroelectric developments in Canada and abroad. He received the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Known for his enthusiasm, humour, kindness and generosity, Roger was a friend and an inspiration. Roger’s unwavering joie de vivre touched many and he will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Throughout his life and until his last days, Roger’s good humour and love of life were infectious.

A celebration of Roger’s life will take place at a later date.

L’ont précédé, ses sœurs Claire et Paulette et ses frères Jean et Gérald.
Né à Pointe-au-Pic, fils de Lucienne Lavoie et d’Eugène Warren. Il a fait ses études au Collège Regiopolis, le Collège Militaire de Kingston, et il entreprend ses études de génie civil à l’Université McGill d’où il gradue en 1956. …
