Order of Wednesday Night

Wednesday Night logo

The Order of Wednesday Night (OWN) – was created as a somewhat light-hearted, but nonetheless heartfelt, special recognition of Regulars who “best personify the principles of Wednesday Night – initiative, personal and intellectual integrity, and who have made an important contribution to society” and, most importantly in this context, have taken OWNership of the Salon, furthering the weekly dialogue while preserving its traditions of civil and enlightened discourse – at least most of the time.
The first recipient was Peter Trent (on January 23, 2002).
Appropriately, the symbol of the OWN, designed by the beloved Sage of Wednesday Night, the late Harry Mayerovitch, is a glowing candle, as much a symbol of the warm, candle-lit atmosphere of Wednesday Night, as of the flame of wisdom, sparked by the many fine minds that are so much a part of these unique evenings.
Or, as Brian Morel said on behalf of the February 2007 inductees:
My friend, Harry Mayerovitch
designed the Wednesday Night symbol. Harry was a wonderful humanist. If you look at the Wednesday Night symbol, it has two little bits to it, the W and the flame. The W is for Harry’s words – and all our words that we speak, and the flame is for the passion that we bring to what we speak about.

Members of the Order of Wednesday Night OWN are listed below in alphabetical order, with the exception of the first member, Peter Trent. A link to the individual’s Citation appears alongside that person’s name. In some cases, a homepage links to the category in Contributors that corresponds to that person, and/or to a dedicated page on the www.wednesday-night.com site.
