In the midst of this glorious uninterrupted sunny period (with no rain to the chagrin of all gardeners!), we need to get our monthly dose of stimulating conversation. So all of you who are in Vancouver on Wed Aug 11th – whether working or on a stay-cation – come and join the fun.

On the menu this time:

–          Good reads – what have you read lately that has you all excited – and are any of your favorites on this list of books: http://tiny.cc/82xbh – this is the month when we usually bring along a book to help enrich each other’s ideas for books to look for.

–          From riches to personal debt: should we be worried and saving, or continue spending to support the economy? Is the growing consumer debt in Canada a concern and if yes, what should we do about it? Some experts in our circle will share some background to get us started on this issue.

–          From personal debt to garbage: is the incinerator the right choice for Vancouver  http://tiny.cc/4j9lo and why are Vancouverites to quote our mayor individually producing 50% more garbage than the Canadian average?

–          And I hope you are sitting so you can survive the shock – exceptionally, yes, I am putting health care as a topic – as August is the month when doctors from across Canada gather to discuss the state of affairs and how to improve it. There is a new proposed plan http://tiny.cc/coflz and I would be curious to hear your reactions.

We look forwards to welcoming friends back and introducing new comers. Come to think, discuss, be inspired, and exchange ideas and insights, all you of interested, interesting, informed and informative folks in town. For the new invitees, the description of the Wednesday night concept and other important logistical details can be found at http://www.wednesday-west.ca/ (click on “About us” at the top menu – and don’t forget to honor Bacchus with a gift). Please note that arrival is for 7PM and start of the moderated discussion is at 8PM sharp – to end promptly at 10PM so everyone can go to work the next day!

So RSVP when you know – I will send a confirmatory e-mail with address and directions to all who confirm. If you want to bring a guest – we would be delighted, but do let us know ahead of time. As always bring your questions, comments, ideas and musings for the mutual enjoyment and knowledge advancement of the gathering.
