Sabra Bissette Ledent
15 September 1947- 21 March 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sabra Bissette Ledent, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 21, 2025, at the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence in Kirkland. Sabra’s life was a remarkable blend of passion, dedication, and love for her family, community, and the causes she cherished.
Born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, Sabra was a proud graduate of Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia. After moving to the Northeastern United States in the early 1970s, she worked in book production before embarking on an international adventure in Vienna, Austria. There, she met her future husband, Jacques, a native of France. The couple settled in Montreal in the early 1980s, where Sabra pursued a career as an editor of scientific reports. She worked as a freelancer for many years, contributing to high-profile projects, including several of the World Bank’s flagship reports.
Sabra was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She lovingly cared for Jacques, their two sons, Christophe and Tristan, and delighted in her role as a grandmother to her newborn grandson, Henri.
A strong believer in community, Sabra was actively involved in Cedar Park United Church and various local organizations, including the American Women’s Club of Montreal and the Montreal Lakeshore University Women’s Club. Her commitment to helping others was evident in all aspects of her life.
Sabra had a passion for sailing, cooking, and visiting her relatives in North Carolina and France. She enjoyed engaging in insightful conversations on a variety of topics. Above all, her sense of humor, determination, and strong character left an indelible mark on those who knew her.
Sabra is survived by her loving husband, Jacques Ledent; their son Christophe Ledent (Caroline Boutin) and their family; her brother David Bissette (Mark Arucan); and a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and acquaintances who were touched by her kindness and warmth.
You are invited to attend a celebration of Sabra’s life to be held on Friday, April 11th at Voluntas Funeral Home, 4695 St-Jean, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Qc H9H2A7. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by eulogies at 3:00 pm.

I had the good fortune to meet Sabra when we both joined the board of WCFE, and from then on enjoyed many hours of great conversation -lots of politics!- over the years.

Barbara Lewis posted this loving tribute:
Last week, a dear friend passed away. We met 40 years ago at prenatal class and, from the day our two boys were born (less than 24 hrs apart), we supported each other through those early exhausting years of childrearing. During the ice storm, our families hunkered in together, sharing food, wine and firewood. I accompanied her to the doctor when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, we shopped together for wigs and she came to stay with me up north the weekend her hair fell out from chemo. I’ll never forget her jumping straight from floor to tabletop when she spied a mouse! A loyal friend, she was there for me when my marriage collapsed and again when I went through my own bout with breast cancer. Over the years we met up regularly for boozy gourmet dinners, and – along with our parents – we often got together at each other’s homes at Christmas. Our hiking trip in Amalfi, seven years ago (when she complained there was too much Italian food!), was an epic adventure. In recent years, she and Jacques would often come visit for a relaxed lunch on the deck and a swim together in the lake. My most recent happy memory of her is relaxing on the dock last summer with a glass of wine, laughing, sharing news of our two new grandsons and talking of her upcoming, much-anticipated trip to France.
I will miss her pithy comments, her strong engagement in all she did, and her wicked sense of humour. Forty years of friendship is tough to say goodbye to. Thank you for all the memories, Sabra Bissette Ledent.
