THE VERY GOOD NEWS IS THAT MARC, JEAN, MAYA AND TEBO ARE WITH US THIS WEDNESDAY. ON THEIR LAST STOP OF AN AMAZING TRIP (NEW YORK, MIAMI,  BAHAMAS, COSTA RICA, LIMA AND MACHU PICHU) BEFORE RETURNING TO SINGAPORE

Unfortunately, that seems to be about the limit in the Good News line-up except for the joyous celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Apollo , tinged by so much regret that the will-to-achieve-great things is sadly diminished.

  1. Now we have Eton Trump aka Boris the Badass as the new PM in Britain. (See https://www.dianaswednesday.com/2019/07/brexit-eu-uk-2019/ and note the Private Eye cover!)
  2. How will Boris deal with the face-off with Iran?  ( Britain was weighing its next moves in the Gulf tanker crisis, )
  3. Where do we start with The Donald? The chilling chants of “send them back”? The  non-too-veiled threats to obliterate Afghanistan
    The embarrassing declaration about moderating the Kashmir dispute – swiftly replied to by India Trump: India Asked Me to Mediate Kashmir Conflict. India: No, We Didn’t.
    And, yes, the claim that he, DJT, is the best thing to have happened to Puerto Rico
  4. What of the US budget deal?   Trump and congressional leaders reach sweeping budget agreement Good or not?  And for whom?
  5. Hong Kong and Puerto Rico (Everything You Need to Know About the Massive Demonstrations in Puerto Rico), similar in their relationships with their respective Big Neighbour are in turmoil, for very different reasons. Both situations are worrisome.
  6. Admittedly, not a  major entry on the grand scale of crises, but what are we going to do about 24 Sussex? 24 Sussex becoming a costly ‘debacle,’ say Conservatives

It’s a good thing that we have our Singapore convener to delve into these and other thorny questions – not that we have had much trouble with How To Start A Conversation At Members Club 1880

 Marc Nicholson, founder of 1880 private members’ club “Built out of a desire to connect and converse, the Timothy Oulton-designed space opened to much fanfare, attracting the jet set, creatives and suits. Inspired his parents’ salon sessions which took place every Wednesday in their home, Nicholson has brought a chunk of what he grew up with to the multi-hyphenates that connect in 1880.”

The Seltzer Bubble
Demand for sparkling water is higher than ever. So is supply.

The Difference Between Club Soda, Seltzer & Tonic Water
You may have noticed when walking down the aisle of the grocery store that there are many options when it comes to carbonated water (also referred to as bubbly water, sparkling water, club soda, soda water and seltzer). And despite what you might think, this isn’t just a difference of regional terminology; it isn’t the Europeans calling it sparkling, the New Englanders seltzer and everyone else club soda. And then there’s also tonic water — what’s that, anyway?
There’s a real, bonafide difference between these types of water. And while the discrepancies are somewhat slight, they’re enough of one for the waters to merit their own name, and so it’s worth getting to the bottom of.
